AI+Father A father's journey with AI to conquer PSLE

About AI+Father

Welcome! You probably stumbled here because you have a child taking the PSLE this year. If so, you're probably feeling some pressure. Sometimes, it feels like the entire family is taking the PSLE together. I hope this site can provide some practical help and encouragement along the way.

This site focuses on language learning in Singapore, because many children seem to need support in this area. This is especially true for the Chinese Mother Tongue, since many families now speak mostly English at home.

Chinese can be difficult because each skill does not automatically lead to the next: 会听不一定会读。会读不一定会讲。会讲不一定会写。A child may understand spoken Chinese, but still struggle to read it. A child may be able to read a word, but not use it naturally in speech. A child may be able to use the word in conversations, but still find it hard to write it correctly. Without a strong Chinese-speaking environment around the child, this becomes even harder.

There is no strict pedagogy followed here, except one central principle - let's use data and AI to help the child learn better. This site is not meant to provide expert advice, magical shortcuts, or a fixed set of exercises that can bring a child from a fail to an A overnight.

Data matters because it helps you track the English words, Chinese characters, phrases, and concepts that your child gets wrong. Over time, this makes it easier to see what has been corrected, what has been internalised, and what has truly been mastered. Without this, doing worksheet after worksheet can often miss the mark because the practice is not targeted enough.

AI matters because it can help generate many examples for learning. Learning to write a word is hard. Learning to use it properly in a sentence is even harder. AI can provide more examples, more sentence patterns, and more ways for the child to meet the same word again and again until it becomes familiar.

Providing more learning resources for your child is one goal of this website, but it is not the only goal. I believe parents should use this site together with their child, rather than simply leaving the child to use it alone. Sometimes, the simple act of showing your child that you are there to support him or her can be more encouraging and motivating than any exercise or practice this site can offer.
